“In this room and in every Mexican woman there is a story of struggle, of getting ahead”
Mexico’s President-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced that she will provide economic support to women between the ages of 60 and 64, and promised to push for reforms to eradicate gender violence and promote equality.

Claudia Sheinbaum said that her Government will offer economic support of 3,000 pesos (about 170 dollars or 155 euros) to women between 60 and 64 years old, in formal recognition of the domestic work done by women.
She also pointed out that this support does not seek to claim that women are the only ones in charge of the care work, but to give back to “all the women who simply for taking care of the home allowed Mexico to be what it is today, our homeland”.
“Therefore, this recognition has an enormous symbol. It means that for the first time and because a woman president arrived we will recognize the work of Mexican women at home,” Sheinbaum said at an event with older women in the Mexican capital.
He also pointed out that this will also recognize their autonomy, allowing them to have their own resources, without depending on the partner or children, at the same time that they can exercise their right to have free time.
The future president, who will assume the presidency from October 1, also recognized the differences between women and stressed that those with less resources have faced greater difficulties.
“In this room and in every Mexican woman there is a story of struggle, of getting ahead. Because it has cost us twice as much work (as men), sometimes more, sometimes less,” he said.
